Tale 1: Mookie The Beagle™ Entrepreneur

Meet Mookie

Mookie The Beagle™, with his shiny black, white, and tan coat gleaming under the bright summer sun, wagged his long, bushy tail excitedly as he trotted around his lush green backyard. His floppy ears bounced with every step, and his brown eyes sparkled with big ideas.

Mookie the Entrepreneur

Today was the day Mookie would start his very first business—a lemonade stand! He had a bright yellow tablecloth draped over an old wooden table, and a handmade sign that read “Mookie’s Fresh Lemonade – $1 per Cup!” in bold, wobbly red letters he’d painted himself.

The neighborhood kidz, a group of energetic friends wearing colorful caps, sneakers, and summer shorts, gathered around, chattering curiously.

“What’s all this about, Mookie?” asked little Maggie, Mookie’s cute fluffy white Havanese best friend.

“I’m starting a business!” Mookie barked happily, his tan snout twitching as he sniffed the fresh air. “But running a business isn’t just about fun—it’s about being smart with money.

Smart Money

We need to keep track of everything so we know if we’re making a profit or not.” Mookie pulled out a small blue notebook from his doggy backpack. It was labeled “Ledger” with cute paw prints 🐾  on the cover.

“This is our ledger,” he explained to Maggie. “It’s like a diary for money. We write down what we spend, called expenses, and what we earn, called revenue.

At the end, we subtract expenses from revenue to find our profit—that’s the money left over to celebrate with!”

Together, Mookie, Maggie, and the kidz got to work. First, they went to the store and spent $5 on juicy yellow lemons and supplies—their expenses. Mookie carefully noted it in the ledger: “Expenses: $5.”

Back in the yard, under the shade of a tall oak tree with leaves rustling in the breeze, they squeezed the lemons and made lemonade. Soon, thirsty neighbors started stopping by—joggers, other kidz on bikes, even the friendly neighborhood mail carrier.

Profit

By the end of the hot afternoon, they had sold 20 cups at $1 each, earning $20 in revenue. Mookie’s white-tipped tail wagged furiously as he added it to the ledger.

“Now, let’s calculate our profit,” Mookie said, gathering Maggie and the kidz in a circle on the grass. “Revenue minus expenses: $20 - $5 = $15 profit!”

The kidz cheered.

“See? Keeping a ledger helps us understand if our business is successful. If we had more expenses than revenue, we’d have a loss, and we’d need to think of ways to improve, like buying cheaper supplies or selling more cups.”

To celebrate, they shared the leftover lemonade, laughing and planning their next adventure. Mookie barked wisely, “Business is about learning and growing—just like us!”
