A Chance For A Business Lesson
Mookie The Beagle™, his black, white, and tan coat shimmering in the warm afternoon sunlight, sat outside his charming doghouse—a wooden hut painted sky blue with a bone-shaped nameplate and a little porch.
He gazed longingly at a picture of a shiny blue collar with a silver tag that jingled just right. “I really want that collar, but it costs $10,” he sighed to himself.
Just then, his neighborhood friends, Maggie the fluffy white Havanese and Ozzie the cheery goldendoodle, wandered by, playing with a yellow ball.
“What’s wrong, Mookie?” asked Maggie, noticing his droopy ears.
“How can we cheer you up?” asked Ozzie, playfully nudging Mookie.
“Nothing’s wrong—it’s a chance for a business lesson!” Mookie yipped, perking up, his bushy tail starting to thump the grass.
A Plan
“If we earn money but spend it all right away, we can’t get big things. That’s why we save! Saving means putting aside part of what you earn for the future.”
His friends’ eyes widened as Mookie outlined a plan: they could start a dog-walking service around the tree-lined neighborhood streets. They’d charge $2 per walk and save half of each payment in a special jar.
Mookie decorated a glass jar with paw stickers and labeled it “Savings Goal: Shiny Collar.”
Savings is like Planting a Seed
Over the next week, they walked an athletic malinois, energetic labradors, and even a fast walking terrier, Mookie’s tan snout leading the way as his floppy ears bounced. After 10 walks, they’d earned $20 in revenue.
“Now, we save $10 as planned,” Mookie said, dropping coins into the jar with a satisfying clink.
He explained: “Saving is like planting a seed—it grows over time. If we spent everything, we’d have fun now but no collar later. Businesses save too, for new tools or tough times.”
Saving is Smart Business
They helped count the savings, and soon they had enough for the collar plus extra treats.
“Saving is smart business!” Mookie barked triumphantly, strutting around in his new blue collar, the silver tag jingling merrily as they shared ice cream cones.
